Sungji Hong’s music has been recorded and released on thirteen compilation CDs produced by Universal Music Korea, Blue Griffin Recording, Arts Incubator, Soundbrush, Elektra Music, Atoll, ECM, Dutton, limited edition by LIM/Fundacion Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa Fundazioa and the Association of Serbian Composers. Her CD release Stella Maris on the ECM New Series (ECM 1929), performed by the vocal ensemble Trio Mediaeval, received critical acclaim and reached the top ten on the Billboard Classical Chart and Itunes classics.

"South Korean/US composer Sungji Hong presents a musical representation of the scriptural verse found in Mark 15:37, which reads, "With a loud cry, Jesus breathed His last." These words are expressed in the original Greek text as "EXEPNEFSEN" (2021), which serves as the title for the work. The expression through music of the tremendously agonizing suffering of The Saviour just before His death is full of restlessness and tension expressed in the form of quarter-tone pitches, double trills, glissandi and multiphonics, among other devices."
